Romania faces one of the highest cancer mortality rates in the European Union. Thousands of patients are diagnosed at advanced stages every year — not because treatments do not exist, but because medical equipment is insufficient, early diagnosis is limited and oncological research is chronically underfunded. This is not a problem without a solution. It is a problem without enough people willing to solve it.
Cluj-Napoca — The Heart of Our Mission
TÉLÉVIE România chose Cluj-Napoca as the starting point of its mission. Cluj concentrates the greatest density of excellent academic and medical institutions in Transylvania: the Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Babeș-Bolyai University, USAMV Cluj and the Prof. Dr. Ion Chiricuță Oncological Institute — one of Romania's most important cancer centres. These institutions have the people. TÉLÉVIE România brings the resources.
What TÉLÉVIE Changes
The TÉLÉVIE model worked in Belgium for 36 years and proved that public solidarity can fundamentally transform medical outcomes. The childhood leukaemia recovery rate rose from 0% to 92%. Over 3,043 researchers were funded. Over €266 million was raised.
